Who Needs a Coach

Who Needs a Life Coach?

I suppose that if you and your life are exactly the way you want them to be, you are doing all the things you have secretly dreamed of doing, and you have all that you desire, there’s not much point in having a coach. But for the rest of us, having a coach who is committed to our success in life is one of the most beneficial, indeed crucial elements. Highly successful people know this. Tiger Woods has a golf coach. Oprah Winfrey has people who coach her on everything from interior design, to fitness, to how to have a top rated hit show.

Life coaching is a method for helping you to improve, develop, learn new skills, find personal success, achieve goals and manage change and personal challenges. Coaching is effective for all situations, whether in personal life, relationships, finances, health, career, or business life. Coaching will enable you to draw out and develop your best qualities, making decisions and choices that will improve your daily existence.

What Coaching is Not

Coaching is not counseling or therapy. Your coach does not focus on the past or claim to have the “right” answers for you. A coach works with you to help you find the answers that lie within your subconscious mind and true self, relying on the knowledge that all of our answers already exist deep within our own souls. We just need guidance in finding and identifying what we already know. A good coach listens more than they talk and then uses skillful questioning and often times their own intuition to lead you in the exploration of who you really are and what is standing between you and the life of your dreams. Good coaching is not about providing the client with the coach’s answers but in leading the client to find their own answers and truth.

Do not enter into a coaching relationship if you do not want to change. You will be asked to stretch to the limits of your comfort zone and then to continue stretching into uncharted territory because that is where your freedom lies. A good coach supports you in facing your fears and walking through them and will give you homework to practice stepping into your truth and reaching your goals and desires. Taking responsibility and being accountable is an important aspect of the coaching agreement. It will not always be easy but the rewards are worth it!

Well known coach Cheryl Richard son says, “At the time you were born you were given an amazing gift - a gift that most of us forget about as we grow older. It's the power to design your own unique life. You are an artist. The canvas is your life. Your life can become an extraordinary work of art.” If you could design your life as a deliberate creation, what would you create? What would you contribute? What would you like for people to say about you when you aren’t there to listen?

If you want to be a better tennis player, hire a tennis coach. If you want to be a better singer, hire a singing coach. And if you want to have a better life, maybe even the best life that you can have, hire a life coach. Pretty obvious isn’t it?
